CASE AGENT:                    Officer Frank Benitez, ID# 49K9

SUMMARY:

On Friday, July 11, 2014, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Officers of the Barstow Police Department were dispatched to 1120 Deseret Avenue Apartment C, reference a subject brandishing a firearm at children who were walking in the area.

During the investigation it was learned that a subject, later identified as Hector Alonzo, reportedly pointed a gun outside of the window and waived it in the direction of the children walking by his apartment.

When officers attempted contact with Alonzo at his apartment, he was observed attempting to flee out of an upstairs window, but he may have seen the officers around his residence because he retreated back into the apartment where he barricaded himself inside and refused to comply with officer’s orders to answer the door.  After an approximate three hour stand-off with Alonzo and numerous attempts to get Alonzo to surrender to officers, a warrant was obtained and served at Alonzo’s apartment, where he was taken into custody without further incident.  As the result of a search of Alonzo’s apartment a replica firearm was located.

Alonzo was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for an outstanding warrant and a report will be sent to the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office requesting charges of PC 417(a)(1) – Brandishing a Weapon to be filed on Alonzo.

Anyone with further information regarding this incident is asked to contact Officer Frank Benitez at (760)256-2211. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous may contact We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME.
