UPDATE (Arrests)

SUMMARY:

The Barstow Police Department Detective Division began conducting follow-up investigation into the residential burglaries and the theft of a cell phone that occurred on August 19, 2014, in the 500 block of East Virginia Way.

Detective Griego conducted further investigation which revealed the identification of a possible suspect named Frankie Arellano. Arellano fit the burglary suspect’s description and was identified as being in the immediate area at the time of the burglaries. Additional evidence found at the scene linked Arellano to one of the burglaries.

Detectives learned that Arellano was staying in the 200 block of Yucca Avenue and went to his apartment to speak to him. As a result a male subject, identified as Joseph Haymond, was located at the residence. Haymond was identified as being on active parole through the California Department of Corrections. The detectives conducted a parole search of the residence and found Frankie Arellano hiding in a bedroom closet under several items of clothing. Arellano was arrested without incident.

Detectives also located a shotgun in the master bedroom where Arellano was hiding. Both Frankie Arellano and Joseph Haymond were arrested and transported to the Barstow Police Department where both subjects were interviewed. Further investigation revealed additional evidence linking Arellano to the burglaries and the theft of the cell phone on Virginia Way.

Detectives also contacted Haymond’s parole agent and the agent issued an arrest warrant for Haymond for parole violation.

Frankie Arellano was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for two counts of PC 459- Residential Burglary.

Joseph Haymond was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for PC 29800(a)(1) - Felon in Possession of a Firearm and PC 3056 - Parole Violation.
