On October 13, 2014, at approximately 8:14 p.m., Barstow Police Officers responded to the corner of 7th Avenue and East Williams Street in the City of Barstow regarding a man who had just been stabbed. Officers arrived on scene and located the victim suffering from a single stab wound to his upper body. Barstow Fire District Paramedics and Desert Ambulance responded to the scene and rendered first aid to the victim. The victim was transported to Barstow Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries at approximately 9:01 p.m.
Witnesses identified the suspect in the stabbing as Andrew Gallegos. Gallegos is on active Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) Probation and has been living in the Barstow area. Gallegos also has ties to Pasadena, CA and Los Angeles, CA, which includes friends and family in those areas.
A crime scene investigation was conducted and evidence related to the stabbing was located. Detectives searched for Andrew Gallegos, but could not locate him. Both Gallegos and the victim are known gang members from different gangs, although their different gang affiliations do not appear to be a primary factor in this case.
A Deputy Coroner from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Division responded to Barstow Community Hospital and took possession of the victim’s body, while the Barstow Police Department Detective Division is continuing the investigation and search for Andrew Gallegos.
Detective Angel Nevarez was able to obtain an arrest warrant through the San Bernardino County Superior Court for Andrew Gallegos for the charge of PC 187(a) Murder. The victim’s name is being withheld by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division pending notification of next of kin.
Gallegos should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone having contact with Gallegos should not approach him and notify their local law enforcement agency immediately.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Angel Nevarez at the Barstow Police Department at (760)255-5167. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may also call the WE-TIP hotline at 1(800)78-CRIME.
