VICTIM: Four (4) businesses within the Barstow Mall
SUSPECT: PERKINS, Richard (DOB 11/28/1990)

On Friday, December 12, 2014 at approximately 5:20 a.m. the Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received a burglary alarm call at the Barstow Mall in the 1800 block of East Main Street in the City of Barstow. While responding to the location, officers learned the manager of the mall happen to be on-scene and reported that a Black male adult wearing a “hoodie” type jacket had just broke into the mall through the southwest mall entrance.
Officers arrived on-scene and began searching the mall for the suspect. While searching the mall, another reporting party called and said he could hear banging coming from inside the mall on the eastside of the building. Officers continued searching and located the suspect inside a business at the mall. The suspect was removing items from the business and putting them in a bag when officers contacted him.
The suspect was immediately identified by officers as Richard Perkins. Officers recognized Perkins from prior police contacts, including prior arrests for burglary. Perkins is also on probation for burglary.
Officers recovered several items from Perkins’ possession, which were identified and returned to the four separate victims that Perkins burglarized within the mall. Perkins was also identified by a witness when he was seen breaking into the mall entrance.
Perkins was booked at the San Bernardino County Jail in Barstow for PC459 – Commercial Burglary. Officer Cardenas will be filing his report with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office to request four (4) counts of Commercial Burglary against Perkins.
