SUMMARY

On January 29, 2015 at 3:49 a.m., Officers from the Barstow Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at the Fossil Watch Store in the Tanger Outlets (2700 Block of Lenwood Road).

Upon arrival officers discovered that the front door glass to the business had been shattered. Officers entered the business and saw that several glass display cases were also shattered and several watches worth several thousand dollars had been stolen. A check of the area for suspects was met with negative results. The scene was examined and several items of evidence were collected.

On February 05, 2015 the incident was assigned to Detective Corporal Gilmore who immediately made contact with the store manager. Detective Gilmore was able to ascertain information from the manager which led to the possible involvement of Desean Tate an employee at a business in close proximity to the outlets.
Detective Gilmore made contact with Tate at the business and he revealed that he was in possession of two watches possibly stolen from the Fossil store. Two Fossil watches were later retrieved from Tate.

On 02/10/2015, the watches retrieved from Tate were shown to the manager at Fossil who positively identified them as being stolen during the incident. Additional information regarding Tate’s involvement was obtained by Detective Gilmore who subsequently arrested Tate in the 600 Block of East Virginia Way for suspicion of receiving stolen property.

Tate was transported to the Barstow Police Annex and an interview was conducted by Detective Andrew Reyes. During Tate’s interview he eventually admitted his involvement in the crime.

Detectives continued investigating additional leads and learned that Victor Valencia and Isaiah Essex were also involved in the burglary at Fossil.

Detective Gilmore made contact with Valencia at his residence in the 700 Block of Dolph Court. A consent search of Valencia’s residence was conducted and a stolen Fossil watch was located in his bedroom. Valencia was arrested and transported to the Police Annex where he was interviewed.

Detective Gilmore then made contact with Essex at Barstow High School. Essex was arrested after it was discovered that he was wearing a stolen Fossil watch. Essex was also taken to the Barstow Police Department where he was interviewed.

Tate, Valencia and Essex stated that they sold the watches to various citizens in the City of Barstow. Seven watches were recovered and returned to the Fossil watch store.

Tate, Valencia and Essex were all booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for the listed charge.
