On 04-09-2016, at approximately 1835, the Barstow Police Department dispatch center received a call for a traffic collision with major injuries at Avenue H and W. Main Street. The collision involved a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.
Ian Naylor, was traveling westbound on West Main Street in the #1 lane in a black 2008 Mazda 3, preparing to make a left turn into the parking lot of Foster’s Freeze. Edwin Perez was traveling eastbound on West Main Street in the #2 lane on a red 2006 Husqvarna motorcycle just west of Fosters Freeze.
Ian Naylor began making his left hand turn into Fosters Freeze, failing to observe Perez traveling eastbound. Perez attempted to avoid the collision by applying the motorcycle’s brakes but was unable to stop in time. Perez collided with the right side of Naylor’s vehicle causing major damage to both the motorcycle and the Mazda. Several witnesses placed Perez’s speed in excess of the posted speed limit just prior to the collision.
Perez was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital with severe injuries to his legs and head. Naylor was not injured however his passenger Kimberly Keener, was transported to Barstow Community Hospital with minor injuries.
The collision was witnessed by several citizens who were in the area at the time of the collision. The collision is still under investigation.
