CASE AGENT:                           Detective Andrew Reyes

On Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at approximately 10:00 PM, Barstow Police Sergeant Andrew Ellis observed an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) exit I-15, northbound at L Street. This vehicle was occupied by two males. The ATV was traveling at unsafe speeds without proper lighting equipment. Sergeant Ellis followed this vehicle southbound on L Street and eastbound onto Church Street. Sergeant Ellis activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the ATV. The ATV failed to yield. Sergeant Ellis pursued the ATV as it continued eastbound on Church Street and then southbound on J Street.

In the area of J Street and Ironwood Road, one of the males on the ATV displayed a firearm, pointed it at Sergeant Ellis’ police vehicle and fired several rounds.  Sergeant Ellis was not injured and the police vehicle was not damaged as a result of this shooting. The ATV continued southbound on J Street and into the desert area south of J Street and Linda Vista Road. The ATV travelled eastbound through the desert area and was last seen traveling northbound on H Street crossing Rimrock Road.

Several Barstow Police officers responded to the area and conducted an extensive area check for the suspects, suspect vehicle and additional evidence. The suspects and the ATV were not located during the search; however, evidence of the shooting was located. This investigation was turned over to Barstow Police Detectives. The shooting scene was processed and the evidence was collected by Barstow Police Evidence technicians.
