SUSPECT:                       Guillermo Rivera, 24-Year Old, OMA

VICTIM(S):                       Wei Xie

CASE AGENT:                 Corporal Greig

On September 23, 2016, at approximately 11:05 P.M., the Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received a call for service regarding a fire at the Barstow Shell Gas Station located at 2870 Lenwood Road.

Barstow Police Officers and Barstow Fire Protection District Firefighters responded to the location and found gas pump number twelve (12) on fire.

Barstow Police Officers and California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officers closed the roadway until the fire was extinguished. While investigating the cause of the fire Barstow Police Officers learned that a carjacking had occurred at the Barstow Shell Gas Station just prior to the fire at gas pump number twelve (12). The officers located the victim of the carjacking at the Shell gas station.

The victim reported that he was sitting in his vehicle at the Barstow Shell Station when a male subject approached him and demanded money. As the victim began to respond the male subject immediately grabbed the victim and pulled him from his vehicle. The male subject then entered the victim’s vehicle and while trying to flee, put the vehicle in reverse and collided with the fuel pump. As a result of the collision the fuel pump caught on fire. The suspect then drove away in the victim’s vehicle towards the I-15 Freeway.

The victim reported that the suspect stole his 2007 Nissan Quest.

Barstow Police Officers began checking the area and Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center notified the California Highway Patrol and provided them with a description of the victim’s stolen vehicle.

On September 23, 2016, at approximately 11:35 P.M., CHP responded to a report of a pedestrian on the I-15 freeway and the Avenue L off-ramp. Officers responded to the area and located the victim’s stolen Nissan Quest, disabled in the center median. CHP Officers checked the surrounding area and located a male subject matching the description of the carjacking suspect. The suspect was identified as Guillermo Rivera, a resident of Los Angeles.

An in-field show-up was conducted and the victim and witnesses positively identified Rivera as the person who stole the victim’s vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that Rivera had been driving northbound on I-15 when the vehicle he was driving broke down near Dale Evans Parkway. A motorist provided Rivera with a ride to the Shell Gas Station in Barstow where he subsequently carjacked the victim.

The California Highway Patrol returned to the vehicle that Rivera was originally driving on Dale Evans Parkway and learned that that vehicle had been reported stolen.

Guillermo Rivera was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Jail in Barstow for the listed charges.
