CASE AGENT:                           Officer J. Silva

SUSPECT:                                 28-year-old Black Male Adult

On Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at approximately 8:36 PM, the Barstow Police Department received a 911 call from a subject in the 1600 block of Church Street indicating he had a gun and was going to kill himself along with anyone who tried to stop him.

Officers responded to the residence to conduct a welfare check on the subject. Responding officers observed the subject walk out of a residence and into the front yard with a gun in his waistband. When officers attempted to contact the subject he ran back into his residence barricading himself. The subject did not respond to initial attempts made by officers to communicate with him and continued to remain barricaded at the residence.

Officers established a perimeter around the residence and requested assistance from the Barstow Police Department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team.  After approximately 4 hours of negotiations between the subject and negotiators, the subject exited the residence and was taken into custody, without incident.

A search warrant was obtained and a search of the residence was conducted. Evidence linking the subject to a weapon was located during this search. Additional investigation revealed the subject was a convicted felon.

The subject was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. A report for PC 29800(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of a Firearm will be forwarded to the San Bernardino County District Attorney Office for review.
