SUSPECT:                           Jamison Lamar Smith (19-year-old)

On Friday, October 21, 2016, at approximately 1302 hours, Officer Helms received a call for service regarding a strong arm robbery that had just occurred at 2796 Tanger Way in front of Perfumania.


The reporting party advised that a black male, with dreadlock style hair, wearing a black NBA Bulls baseball hat, a black shirt and black shorts had forcibly stolen a purse from a female tourist and fled the area in a green Buick vehicle.  The reporting party was able to obtain a partial license plate for the suspect’s vehicle and provided it to the Barstow Police Dispatch Center.

Dispatch was able to utilize the partial license plate information to obtain a possible match of a vehicle registered to an address in the 600 block of East Virginia Way.  Officers responded to the Virginia Way address and within minutes the described vehicle arrived in the area. The vehicle was occupied by two people, one of which matched the description of the suspect. 


As the officers approached the subjects, one of them fled the area however, the subject matching the suspect’s description was detained and identified as Jamison Lamar Smith. Further investigation revealed that Smith is currently on post release community supervision (PRCS) for burglary. Officer’s searched the area for the subject who fled but were unable to locate him. 


The victim’s stolen purse was located on the ground outside of the suspect’s vehicle. The purse was recovered and released back to the victim.  Several witnesses to the incident were able to positively identify Smith as the suspect. Smith was placed under arrest and transported to the Barstow Police Department.


Jamison Smith was later booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for PC 211 – Robbery.
