On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at approximately 6:07 P.M., the Barstow Police Department received a 911 call reporting a brandishing of a firearm on the 900 block of East Main Street. The caller reported that a person named Raymond Hunter had just pointed a gun at them. The caller provided a physical description of Hunter and the last location they saw him.
Officer David Edwards and Officer Brian Pena arrived on scene and observed a person matching the description of Hunter standing in front of the Route 66 Motel located on the 900 block of East Main Street. Officer Edwards and Pena contacted the person and identified him as Raymond Hunter. Through their investigation, the officers learned that one of the victims and Hunter got in to a disagreement and an argument ensued. During the argument, Hunter produced a handgun from his person, pointed it at both victims, and threatened to kill them.
Upon seeing the handgun, the victims fled from the area and once in a safe location, called the police department to report the incident.
Officers interviewed several witnesses to the incident. Officer Edwards and Officer Pena conducted an in-field show-up with both victims and the witnesses and they positively identified Hunter as the person who assaulted the victims with the firearm. Officers searched the area for the firearm but did not locate one.
Officers arrested and transported Raymond Hunter to the Barstow Police Department. Hunter was subsequently booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Adelanto Jail for the listed charges.
