On February 12, 2017, at approximately 4:09 AM, officers from the Barstow Police Department responded to a call for service regarding a shooting on the 600 block of East Virginia Way. Upon arrival officers learned that two Hispanic males forced their way into the victim’s apartment and attempted to rob the victims at gunpoint. One suspect held the victims at gunpoint while the other suspect took the victims cellular phones. During this time, one of the victims grabbed the gun and began struggling with the suspect for control of the gun.
The victim eventually let go of the gun and both suspects fled out of the residence on foot. The suspects ran towards a vehicle parked a short distance away. As the suspects were fleeing, one of the suspects fired a shot from the gun at the victims. The suspects attempted to use the nearby vehicle to flee in however they were unable to get the vehicle started. The suspects ultimately abandoned the vehicle and fled the area on foot. Responding officers checked the immediate area for the suspects but were unable to locate them.
Detective Leo Griego was called-out to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detective Griego’ investigation revealed evidence that linked the vehicle to the shooting incident. Officers impounded the vehicle and processed it for evidence at the Barstow Police Department. During his investigation, Detective Griego located a subject who matched the physical description of one of the robbery suspects.
Detective Griego contacted and identified this subject as Christian Silva. Detectives conducted an infield show-up with Silva and both victims positively identified Christian Silva as being involved in the robbery and shooting.
Detective Griego placed Silva under arrest and was able to collect additional evidence linking Silva to the robbery. Silva was booked at the San Bernardino County Jail in Barstow.
