CASE AGENT:                   Officer Jimmie Walker

On February 26, 2017 at approximately 10:14 P.M., officers were dispatched to Chevron Gas Station in the 1400 block of East Main Street regarding a robbery that just occurred. The caller reported that a Black male adult entered the store, produced a semi-automatic handgun, pointed it at the clerk and demanded money out of the cash drawer. After retrieving the money and other store property the male fled the store running south across the street towards the Jack-in-the Box restaurant.

Officers arrived on scene and interviewed the store clerk.  The suspect description was obtained during the interview and a crime broadcast was given to the assisting units. Several officers searched the area for the suspect but were unable to locate him.

At approximately 11:41 P.M., officers responded to the 2000 block of Orchid Street regarding a man with a gun that was sitting inside a vehicle in front of a residence. Officers arrived on scene and contacted the male who the officers identified as Rishadd Ward. While contacting Ward the officers observed that Ward matched the description of the suspect involved in the earlier robbery at Chevron.

Officers conducted a search of Ward’s vehicle and found additional evidence linking Ward to the Chevron robbery. Officers conducted an in-field show-up with the victim and witnesses of the Chevron robbery and they positively identified Ward as the suspect.

Officer Walker placed Ward under arrest and transported him to the Barstow Police Department.

Officers then conducted a search of the motel room where Ward was staying with his girlfriend. Inside Ward’s room, officers located a loaded semi-automatic handgun and additional evidence linking Ward to the Chevron robbery. Officer Walker also suspected that Ward was the suspect in another robbery that occurred at Circle K a few weeks ago and notified the Barstow Police Department Detective Division. Detective Tom Lewis responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Upon arrival, Detective Lewis recognized Ward as the suspect in the Circle K robbery that occurred a few weeks ago.

On January 31, 2017, at 11:32 P.M., a black male adult entered the Circle K store located in the 500 block of Barstow Road, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded cash from the register. The suspect took cash from the register and fled the store.

Detective Lewis had obtained the Circle K surveillance video of the robbery and was attempting to identify and locate the suspect depicted in the video. Through his investigation, he positively identified Ward as the suspect.

Further investigation revealed that Ward was also the suspect in two attempted robberies that occurred over the weekend.

On February 25, 2017, at approximately 2:36 P.M., a black male adult entered the Barstow Recycling Center located in 500 block East Main Street and pointed a gun at the employee demanding money. The employee fled to the back of the business and locked himself in a room. The suspect then fled on foot without taking anything.

On February 25, 2017, at approximately 2:48 P.M., a black male adult entered Barstow Liquor located in the 100 block of South Second Avenue. The male confronted the clerk, pointed a gun at him, and demanded money from the register. The clerk refused and yelled at the suspect to leave his store as he called the police. The suspect fled on foot without taking any property.

Detective Lewis reviewed both of the surveillance videos from Barstow Recycling Center and Barstow Liquor and positively identified Ward as the suspect in both attempted robberies. During Detective Lewis’ investigation, he obtained additional evidence linking Ward to the two attempted robberies.

Rishadd Ward was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for PC 211- Armed Robbery, PC 29800(a)(1)- Felon in Possession of a Firearm and PC 23900- Altering the Serial Number on a Firearm.
