CR NUMBER:                      17-1229

DATE OF INCIDENT:        March 29, 2017

SUSPECT:                           Ralph Rasmussen, 62 years old, Barstow Resident

CASE AGENT:                   Officer Phillip Ragle

On March 29, 2017, at approximately 11:07 A.M., officers responded to the 300 Block of Beverly Street within the City of Barstow regarding an assault. The caller advised dispatch that her husband had been stabbed by a neighbor and needed medical assistance. The caller also advised the suspect fled into his own garage in the 1600 Block of Piute Street and was now in possession of a firearm.

Officer Ragle arrived at the residence at 11:08 A.M. and located a male identified as Ralph Rasmussen standing in front of a residence, in possession of a toy rifle.  Rasmussen was contacted and detained without incident. Barstow Fire Department arrived and provided medical assistance to the victim who was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

An investigation into the incident was conducted and revealed that the victim was walking down his driveway towards his vehicle when Rasmussen approached him. Rasmussen asked the victim to borrow his cellphone to make a call. When the victim reached into his vehicle to retrieve the phone, Rasmussen stabbed him twice in the back with a kitchen knife for unknown reasons.

After stabbing the victim, Rasmussen fled into his own garage, where he retrieved a wooden toy rifle and pointed it at the victim. A search of Rasmussen’s person resulted in officers retrieving the knife believed to have been used in the incident.

Rasmussen was arrested and transported to the Barstow Police Department for further questioning. Rasmussen was later booked at High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto for a violation of P.C. 245(a) (1) - Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
