On Friday, May 05, 2017 at approximately 8:45 A.M., Barstow Police Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon inside Rite-Aid located at 1380 Barstow Road. The Reporting Party advised a Black Male Adult wearing black and white pajama pants and a white t-shirt entered the business and stole two bottles of alcohol. The suspect dropped his cell phone as he was fleeing the business.
The Victim, who witnessed the incident, observed the suspect drop his cell phone in the parking lot of the business. The Victim picked up the cell phone and walked back into the business to give the cell phone to the clerk. The Victim stated when the suspect observed this; he followed him and his fiancé back into the business. The Victim stated he gave the clerk the phone and the suspect walked behind the counter to get the phone from the clerk. The clerk threw the phone to the Victims fiancé at which time, the suspect jumped back over the counter and pulled a black semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the Victim. The Victim’s fiancé then gave the cell phone to the suspect who fled the business toward the 1300 block of Barstow Road.
Barstow Police Officers conducted a search of the area and Officer J. McDowell located the suspect, who was identified as Martice Hood in the area of Barstow Road. An in-field line-up was conducted and Hood was positively identified by the victim and witness as the suspect who committed the assault with the firearm.
The suspect was arrested for being in violation of California Penal Code section 245(A) (2)-Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The suspect was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Substation in Barstow.
