On Monday, May 15, 2017, at approximately 12:53 p.m., Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received a call reporting a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist in the 1000 block of East Main Street. Witnesses to the collision reported that the vehicle involved fled from the area southbound on Muriel Drive.

Barstow Police Officers responded to the scene and located a male subject suffering from serious injuries. Barstow Fire District Paramedics responded and provided medical aid to the victim. The victim was transported to Barstow Community Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

A Deputy Coroner from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner Division responded to Barstow Hospital and assisted Barstow Police investigators.

Barstow Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Detectives also responded to Barstow Community Hospital and identified the victim as Bennett Warner, a longtime resident of Barstow.

Detectives and Evidence Technicians processed the scene and collected evidence related to the collision. Detectives also canvassed the businesses in the area and located witnesses who observed portions of the incident.

The investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle approached Warner while he was riding his bicycle westbound on Main Street. The driver of the vehicle exchanged words with Warner and a verbal argument ensued. The driver then followed Warner into the parking lot at 1000 East Main Street, accelerated his vehicle, and intentionally rammed Warner forcing him into a parked vehicle. The driver then fled from the scene southbound on Muriel Drive.

Witnesses describe the vehicle as an older model pick-up truck, possibly a Chevy S10, black in color with red or primer markings on the front.

Detectives were also able to locate surveillance video depicting portions of the collision and the suspect’s vehicle. Detectives conducted further investigation, and as a result identified the driver of the suspect’s vehicle as Raymundo Alberto Rodriguez-Cordova.

Detectives have attempted to contact Cordova and locate his vehicle but have been unable to do so.
