DATE OF INCIDENT: July 18, 2017
SUSPECTS: Lawrence Herrera, 37-Year-Old, Barstow Resident
CASE AGENT: Officer Michael Cardenas
On July 18, 2017, at approximately 03:58 A.M., Barstow Police Officers responded to the Treasure House Mall located in the 300 Block of East Main Street regarding a burglary alarm. Officer Cardenas arrived at the location and saw a Hispanic male attempting to gain access to the south rear door of the business. As Officer Cardenas approached the business, he observed the male attempting to cut the lock to the door with a large device. The male became aware of the officer approaching and fled east towards several trash bins that belonged to the business. As the male passed the bins, he quickly discarded a set of large bolt cutters into one of the bins and continued to flee on foot.
Officer Cardenas caught up to the subject and apprehended him. Officers identified the male as Lawrence Herrera. Officer Cardenas went to the rear door where he first saw Herrera and discovered several fresh cut marks on the door. Officer Cardenas also collected the set of bolt cutters from the trash bin that Herrera had discarded while fleeing.
Officers contacted an employee from the business and the employee confirmed that the damage to the door was fresh damage.
Herrera was arrested for burglary and transported to the Barstow Police Department for further questioning.
Lawrence Herrera was subsequently booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow for P.C. 459-Commericial Burglary.
