SUMMARY:

On September 6, 2017, at approximately 3:43 A.M., officers responded to Montara Elementary School regarding a burglary alarm. The alarm was a motion alarm coming from inside the classroom.

When officers arrived at the school, they observed that the classroom window where the alarm activated was open. As officers began to enter the classroom to search it, a male subject appeared from where he was hiding and began to flee from the classroom. The male subject was able to exit the classroom as officers pursued him. The male subject ran to a residence in the 1800 block of Sunset and entered the front door of the unsecured residence. As officers arrived at the residence, the owners exited and reported that an unknown male had just run into their home and was hiding in a bedroom. The officers entered the bedroom and located the male subject hiding.

Officers arrested the male and positively identified him as Angelo Lopez. Officers also learned that Lopez had two outstanding warrants for his arrest. The officers transported Lopez to the Barstow Police Department.

The investigation revealed that the homeowners did not know Lopez and that he had no further connection with the residence.

Officers returned to the classroom and determined that Lopez had entered the classroom through the window. It was determined that no property was missing from the classroom.

Angelo Lopez was subsequently booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for Penal Code 459- Burglary and for his outstanding warrants.
