SUMMARY:

On August 31, 2017 Barstow Police Officers Matt Helms and Jimmie Walker were working a special enforcement detail and contacted a citizen who reported an illegal marijuana grow in the desert area behind Love’s Truck stop. The officers initiated an investigation and obtained evidence corroborating the citizen’s report. The initial investigation revealed that the residence was operating an illegal marijuana cultivation operation within the City of Barstow and had hundreds of marijuana plants at the location. Based on their investigation Officer Walker obtained a search warrant for the residence.

On Wednesday, September 13, 2017, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Barstow Police Department officers and detectives, along with deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Marijuana Enforcement Team, executed the search warrant at the residence located at 2600 Salt Springs Avenue.

As the officers arrived at the residence, they encountered seven people at the main house. Upon seeing the officers, one of the suspects later identified as Lisheng Huang fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Huang was located and apprehended without incident.

During the execution of the search warrant the Investigators located seventeen (17) different plots of marijuana growing on the property. The marijuana plants were in different stages of maturity in each of the plots. Officers, deputies, and evidence technicians processed the entire scene and seized 3,432 marijuana plants.

Detectives placed L. Haung, Z. Huei, S. Huang, Xiao, Pan, Wong, and Shiren, under arrest in connection with the illegal marijuana operation and transported them to the Barstow Police Department.

All seven suspects were booked at the Barstow Police Department for H&S 11358(c) – Cultivating More Than Six Plants and BMC 19.27.030- Illegal Outdoor Cultivation in City of Barstow.
