On Thursday, October 12, 2017, at approximately 11:57 p.m., the Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received several calls from Barstow citizens who reported hearing “multiple gunshots” at the apartment complex in the 2100 block of Borrego Drive. While officers responded to the scene additional callers reported that there were multiple gunshot victims at the apartment complex. When Barstow Police Officers arrived at the scene, they located three (3) males suffering from gunshot wounds.
The officers rendered first aid to the victims while waiting for the arrival of Barstow Fire Protection District personnel. Officers identified the three gunshot victims as Toney Hodge, Donte Purvis, and Lemark Rachal, all residents of Barstow.
Barstow Fire Protection District Paramedics arrived on scene, treated the victims, and transported them to Barstow Community Hospital. The hospital then transported all three victims by airship to either Loma Linda Medical Center or Arrowhead Medical Center for further treatment.
Barstow Police Department Detectives and Evidence Technicians responded to the location and processed the scene. The Detectives and the evidence technicians located a vehicle parked on Borrego Drive with multiple bullet holes. The Detectives also located fired cartridge casings, fired bullet projectiles, and additional evidence of the shooting on the street and sidewalk near the parked vehicle that sustained the bullet damage.
The Detectives canvassed the Borrego Drive apartment complex and located several witnesses to the shooting. The investigation revealed that the three victims were standing together in front of the apartment complex when a white sedan style vehicle approached them. As the vehicle drove past the three males, the occupants of the white suspect vehicle fired several rounds at the victims. The vehicle then fled from the area.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this shooting.
