CASE AGENT Detective Nathaniel Arias
On February 19, 2018, at approximately 9:58 AM, Barstow Police Department Dispatch Center received a 911 call from 1000 Windy Pass, Space # 72 regarding a shooting. The caller reported that her brother, Gabriel Rodriguez, retrieved a shotgun and discharged it outside the trailer. The caller reported that Rodriguez then pointed the shotgun at her boyfriend and threatened to kill him.
As officers responded to the scene, the caller told the dispatcher that Rodriguez locked himself in his bedroom and that he still had the shotgun.
As officers arrived on scene, they observed the female and a male subject attempting to get out of the trailer by climbing out of a bedroom window. The two witnesses reported that Rodriguez was still in the trailer. The officers removed the two from the trailer and set up a perimeter around the residence. Officers then learned that a ten (10) year-old autistic child was also inside of the home with Rodriguez.
Officers evacuated several neighboring residences and began giving verbal commands for Rodriguez to exit the residence unarmed. Barstow Police Department’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded to the incident.
During the investigation, officers received additional information that the suspect Gabriel Rodriguez fled the residence just before police arrived. Investigators were able to confirm this information.
Members of the special response team checked the residence and confirmed that Rodriguez was not inside. Officers did locate the 10-year-old inside one of the bedrooms and reunited him with his mother.
Detective Arias assumed the investigation and interviewed the two victims. Detective Arias and Evidence Technician Schooler processed the scene and located the shotgun used in the incident. They also collected additional evidence confirming that a shooting took place at the residence.
Several Barstow Police Officers searched the area for Rodriguez but to no avail.
The Barstow Police Department is still looking for Gabriel Rodriguez. If anyone knows the location of Rodriguez, please notify the Barstow Police Department immediately by calling 760-256-2211.
