SUMMARY:

On March 8, 2018, at approximately 6:19 AM, Alecia Garcia came to the Barstow Police Department to report that her son’s elementary school teacher scratched him while at school. She told the officers that the incident took place in late February of 2018 at Cameron Elementary School. She also provided officers with a photograph alleging that the teacher caused the injury. Officer Brian Pena and School Resource Officer Philip Ragle initiated an investigation regarding the allegations.

On March 8, 2018, at approximately 8:14 AM, Barstow Police Dispatch Center received a call from an employee at Cameron Elementary School, located in the 800 block of Muriel Drive, reporting that a parent was physically assaulting a teacher on campus. As officers were responding to the scene, the caller reported that some witnesses had intervened and pinned the suspect on the ground.

As officer Ragle arrived on scene, several witnesses positively identified the female parent who assaulted the teacher as Alecia Garcia.

Officers conducted several witness interviews and learned that Garcia brought her son to school and approached the teacher at the front of the school near the buses. The teacher was at the bus line waiting to escort her students off the bus and to the classroom. The investigation revealed that Garcia approached the teacher and asked her why she was still teaching at the school. Garcia then suddenly grabbed the teacher by her hair and began punching her multiple times in the head and face area.

Several witnesses observed the assault and quickly pulled Garcia off the teacher and detained her until the officers arrived.

The victim teacher sustained moderate injuries to her nose, head, and lower body. Barstow Fire Protection District arrived on scene and treated the victim for her injuries. Paramedics then transported the victim to Barstow Community Hospital for further treatment.

Officer Ragle placed Alecia Garcia under arrest for the assault and transported her to the Barstow Police Department. Garcia will be booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Barstow Jail for the listed charges.

Barstow Police officers are still investigating the incident Garcia reported regarding the injury to her son.
