Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre was elected to the Barstow City Council in November 2006, and was the sixth woman to be elected to the council since its incorporation in 1947. Her election to the council followed her service for five years on the Barstow Fire Protection District Board, where she served two years as the chairperson.
Julie was elected as Mayor of Barstow in November 2012. She ran unopposed and holds the distinction of being the second woman in the City’s history since the Mayoral Electoral process began in 1978 to hold the position as Mayor.
The daughter of Tony and Barbara Hackbarth, Julie was born and raised in Barstow. She manages Del Taco on Mountain View in Barstow–the original business started by her family.
As a local business person, Julie has been a supporter of the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce, serving as a past board member. She was recognized by the organization as the “Barstow Woman of the Year” in 1997 and was recognized by Congressman Paul Cook’s office for the “Women of Distinction Award” in 2013.
Julie has three children and five grandchildren. Julie enjoys playing piano for her church and is dedicated to giving back to her community. She was one of the initial board members of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Barstow, a member of the Soroptimist Club of Barstow, a PEO member and serves on the Board of Directors for the Barstow College Foundation, and is an Honorary Member of the “Officers Wives Club” at Fort Irwin.
