Since August of 1982 Merrill Gracey has resided in the City of Barstow just after completing his CHP academy training. He has been a registered voter since 1972 having voted in every primary and general election since that year.

His entire life and career can be summarized as one of continuous service to his country, state and community. He has been bound by oaths of loyalty, duty and service for most of his adult life due to his military and law enforcement service.

Since his retirement, he has been very active with the Barstow Boron Masonic Lodge and the Barstow Shrine Club. His association with the Masonic Fraternity has been a focal point of his life and truly a great experience. After a few years of retirement, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Barstow Cemetery District by Former County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, where he stills sits as a Director on the Cemetery Board.

Merrill was appointed to the City Council on January 22, 2013, and much of his knowledge and experience has been applied as a Councilman as he works passionately to fulfill the City’s mission to provide quality public services, promote economic development, to expand housing, education and recreation, celebrate our diverse cultural history and create pride in our community.
