At the City of Barstow, it is our goal to reduce these challenges and become your partner in establishing your successful presence within our city.

Savvy business professionals know the importance of working with a city that is favorable for business and serious about offering incentives and the support required to create a win-win environment for all concerned. The City of Barstow, located midway between Los Angeles, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev., is a major transportation corridor. With Interstates 15 and 40, and highways 58 and 247 all converging in Barstow, more than 55 million people in 19 million vehicles travel through Barstow each year. Additionally, the city is the home to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad's classification yard and is located in close proximity to Southern California Logistics Airport (SCLA); the airport is poised to become one of the largest international cargo airports in the nation. These transportation advantages offer businesses outstanding opportunities for moving products throughout the United States.

Incorporated in 1947, the City of Barstow continues to meet the infrastructure needs of its businesses and residents by following a tradition of insightful long-range planning to serve our steady population and business growth. Barstow's leaders are committed to bringing development and jobs to Barstow. The business-friendly attitude of Barstow offers one-stop, fast-track permitting (planning to permit in 45 days), site selection services, links to job trainers and developers, and a knowledgeable, professional staff. The Barstow area boasts a large qualified labor pool and an abundance of land at reasonable prices.

Barstow has an extensive redevelopment area, which enables it to provide financial assistance to existing and incoming businesses and development projects. Found within the redevelopment area is a 35-acre, city-owned business park, featuring prime lots for companies seeking light manufacturing space. In addition to the business park, the area boasts the new Barstow Industrial Park, which is ideally positioned for distribution, trucking and manufacturing companies. This industrial park has plans to incorporate rail access in the near future.

The City of Barstow was rated as a "Very Low-Cost City" in the most recent Kosmont Cost of Doing Business Survey. This survey is a respected survey conducted by the Kosmont Companies, an independent company specializing in public/private partnerships in community development and redevelopment. The survey compares business, utility, property and other tax costs and economic incentives for hundreds of cities nationwide and then gives each city a cost rating. Another positive factor helping to hold down the start-up costs for businesses in the Barstow area is the less-stringent air quality requirements of the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District.

The Barstow area offers businesses and their employees affordable housing, low crime rates as a result of its own strong police department, clean air, 360 days of sunshine, a community college, a community hospital that was named a "One of the Top 100 Hospitals in the Nation" in recent back to back years, 125 factory outlet stores, and friendly people. Barstow is a healthy, vibrant city that promotes a true spirit of community throughout the year. City sponsored events from a grand Fourth of July celebration to annual car show on historic Route 66 provide residents of all ages with a variety of entertainment. Barstow is the ideal community for you and your employees to call home.

The powerful combination of community, business amenities and aggressive public/private partnerships make the City of Barstow an ideal location for 21st century businesses. We invite you to come join the ever-increasing number of companies, like Newmark International, a concrete pole manufacturer, the $150 million resort casino project, several new distributing firms as well as a litany of tourism service companies, that are coming to the conclusion that Barstow is their "Crossroads of Opportunity."
