Protecting Barstow's Public Safety and Essential City Services

Barstow is one of the few cities in the county, and the only one in the High Desert, with its own Police and Fire Departments. This guarantees our first responders are available when needed and not diverted to other cities. When it comes to emergencies, fast response times to 9-1-1 calls are critical for saving lives.

Local Funding To Keep Barstow Safe

Our City’s first priority is protecting the safety of our residents and maintaining a quality of life that we all value. In order to provide stable, local funding to meet these needs, the City of Barstow is considering placing a Public Safety and Essential City Services Protection Measure on the November 2018 ballot.

If approved by a majority of local voters, a one-cent sales tax would generate $7 million in locally-controlled funding to:

FireProvide fire protection and paramedic services

Police Provide police services, including neighborhood police patrols, crime prevention and investigations

Streets and ParksMaintain streets and parks and repair potholes

911Provide quick responses to 9-1-1 emergencies

Senior and YouthHelp fund senior and youth programs

Crimes Reduce gang activity and drug-related crimes
