Community Development
The Community Development Department encompasses several divisions:
- The Planning Division is responsible for development and planning within the City of Barstow.
- The Engineering Division coordinates the design of public works improvements such as streets, sewers, storm drains and traffic signals. It reviews and inspects public works improvement plans submitted by private engineers to ensure conformance to city standards and proper planning and maintenance of the City of Barstow's infrastructure.
- The Building Division is responsible to review and inspect commercial, industrial, residential and public works construction plans. They make sure that public life safety is protected; environmental laws and concerns are addressed; and that federal, state, county and city codes are followed.
- The Solid Waste/Wastewater Division is responsible for implementing and overseeing an integrated waste management system, which includes the management of the collection of household garbage and trash, recycling, hazardous waste, sewer and the wastewater treatment plant. Contracts and programs are executed for compliance with State mandates and to enhance community environmental responsibility.
