Joe Gomez was elected to the Barstow City Council in 2004 and elected as the city's Mayor in 2008. Born and raised in Barstow by Dennis and Frances Gomez of Belen, N.M., Joe graduated from Barstow High School in 1976 and later attended Barstow College where he received his Associate in Science degree.

Mr. Gomez raised his three children as a single parent for 13 years and is now engaged to Marjorie Hernandez. Together they have eight children and eight grandchildren. He has always dedicated his time and money to youth activities in Barstow. From 1980 to 1982, he coached Bobby Sox softball; from 1985 to 1998, he coached and managed T-ball and little league. He served as the Vice President of East Barstow Little League from 1993 through 1994.

Mr. Gomez is a local small business owner and is acutely aware of the challenges that small business owners face to be successful. He is committed to ensuring that the City of Barstow remains a business-friendly city. In 1998 through 2002, he served as a board member of the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce and in 2002 he proudly served as the Barstow Area Chamber of Commerce’s president.
