BPD to Increase DUI Enforcement during Holiday Season (1/4/2010)

The Barstow Police Department will be increasing patrol activity during this holiday season to help keep our streets safe and free of drunk drivers. Officers will be working extra patrols as part of the Barstow Police Department’s commitment to the “Avoid the 25” Traffic Safety Program.

The “Avoid the 25” program is a collaboration of 25 San Bernardino County law enforcement agencies committed to the enforcement of traffic laws and the investigation of traffic collisions involving alcohol.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) research shows that between 2002 and 2006, nearly four fatalities out of 10 involved alcohol-impaired crashes in the last two weeks of December..

Officers want to remind the public to be safe this holiday season and don’t get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking. There is no excuse for driving drunk. Anyone enjoying this holiday season by consuming alcohol should remember these simple rules: 1) designate a sober driver; 2) leave your vehicle at home; 3) stay wherever you are drinking (if possible); 4) take a taxi; or 5) simply have an alcohol-free holiday.

The Barstow Police Department wishes everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
