Fleetstar Barstow Press Release (12/08/10)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 8, 2010

Fleet Star, Inc. Awarded 10 Year Contract to Operate the City of Barstow’s Liquefied Natural Gas and Compressed Natural Gas Retail Fueling Station

The City of Barstow announced this week that it awarded Fleet Star, Inc. a ten-year contract to operate and maintain its public access natural gas station, located at 100 Sandstone Court. This retail station will offer vehicle-grade compressed and liquefied natural gas (CNG/LNG). Fleet Star Inc. is a subsidiary of Applied Natural Gas Fuels, Inc., based in Westlake Village, CA.

Fleet Star operates and manages a number of refueling stations, both public and privately owned, including Fleet Star Ontario, located on the grounds of the Ontario International Airport at UPS’ distribution center.

The Fleet Star Barstow station will fuel the increasing number of heavy-duty truck fleets and passenger vehicles using Interstate Corridors of I-15 and I-40. For fleets operating in and around California ports and intermodal sites, Barstow is a critical link in developing natural gas fueling infrastructure along these corridors.

Barstow’s mayor, Joe Gomez, reports, “We are focused on attracting the growing number of natural gas-fueled fleets that travel through Barstow and the Mojave Desert. Because of our city’s strategic location along one of the nation’s busiest heavy-duty truck corridors, we believe this station fills a critical need for clean fuel infrastructure to support alternative-fuel trucks. We foresee the City of Barstow serving as the transportation hub of the western Mojave Desert.”

Applied Natural Gas Fuels’ CEO and president, Cem Hacioglu said, “The Fleet Star Barstow station represents another strategic move for Fleet Star and our production fuel subsidiary, Applied LNG Technologies, LLC (ALT), as we create significant natural gas fueling infrastructure for California and surrounding states. Fleets are continuing to convert from gasoline and diesel to cleaner burning and less costly natural gas fuels. We are pleased to partner with the City of Barstow as another step in our overall plan to provide LNG and CNG along important drayage, intermodal, and other carrier routes.”

He adds, “With abundant and affordable supplies of natural gas in our region and the Rockies, we expect the number of natural gas vehicles, particularly in the heavy-duty trucking industry, to grow year over year. We plan to open additional Fleet Star locations in surrounding states beginning in 2011. The Barstow location makes that expansion a growing reality.”

There are currently about 110,000 natural gas vehicles in the United States. By converting to natural gas, vehicles immediately produce less carbon emissions than vehicles running on gasoline or diesel while natural gas has lower emission levels of nitrogen oxides and particulates.
